Practical Metaphysics

Nothing we do seems worthwhile unless it rests on some sort of belief. Unless there is some rational basis for our actions we are trapped in a world of random and pointless behaviour driven only by unshaped desire or caprice. The motivation for Exchanging the Word is that it opens up a chink through which a glimpse of reality can be seen. Unless we understand what we mean by reality, and how we think it can be seen, in part at least, through a chink opened up by interaction with others, it is a pointless task. Belief in something is not a faith. Faith rests upon an unquestioning belief and need not have any rational foundation. Belief is based upon a rational idea which seems coherent and convincing. Practical Metaphysics provides a rational foundation for a variety of practices, one of which is Exchanging the Word. There may be many more.

My thoughts on Practical Metaphysics are still developing.
